Lately there is a lot of talk about the environment but a radical change is still far away, there are still many, too many interests unfortunately considered more important than the environmental protection.
But if trying to change the course of those who rule the world may seem like Don Quixote struggle against windmills, I still believe, perhaps utopically, that in our own small way we can all do something to protect, safeguard and improve the little piece of the world we live in .
Although in Sweden I must say there is a culture and a respect for Nature to be praised and taken as an example, unfortunately also here there are obvious indications of the serious impact of people on the environment and wildlife.
I have already wrote about the poor bat caught in a nylon thread, now I show you a red deer with a cord around its horns and a fallow deer with a “I don’t know what” plastic (it seems) that covers head and horns. A photographer, friend of mine, showed me a picture of a fallow deer killed by a net it was caught and tangled in.
What we throw in Nature does not disappear, most often it does not decompose until after many years, even centuries, and ends up irreparably polluting the territory and harming plants and animals.
However clean it may be here in Sweden, when I go in Nature I always end up gathering cigarettes-butts, paper, plastic, cans, bottles … even in places frequented by photographers or birdwatchers who, in theory, love Nature.
The problem is that there is still so much ignorance and, unfortunately, still so much indifference because we think only about our little world: clean house, clean car and who cares about the rest!
But that rest is piling up right outside our front door, polluting our garden. Is it so difficult to understand?
And saying: “ah, it won’t be a cigarette butt more or less to make the difference if in China they are poisoning the air and in Indonesia they are filling the sea with plastic!” Because it makes a difference!
Because if many of us, in our small piece of the world, begin to do something to clean up and safeguard the environment, that little piece of the world will start to expand.
And little by little we will live in a cleaner world!
Or at least we’ll leave it a little cleaner for the generations to follow …
Let’s think about it!
Let’s do something about it!
